River Tummel

Great Summer Time Rafting

What - Wild - Grade 4, Half Day (summer time weekends only), £50.00 per person

The River Tummel is the most commercially run river in Scotland and second only to the very lame Tryweryn in Wales which is only busier due to being closer to major population. The Tummel is used to generate hydro electricity and as a consequence has controlled flow from dam releases over summer months on weekends only. The River Tummel starts off with grade II & III rapids and eventually end up at an 18 foot double tier drop which is grade IV.

This Rafting trip is suited to those over the age of 15 years. A road runs along the bank of the lower section which can be an escape route for anyone who does not want to tackle the final drop or for family or friends who don't want to participate but would like to see the action.

Why
The River Tummel is guaranteed water during the summer months and is an exciting and challenging run. The river starts off gently, gradually picking up gradient and speed. Its not long before you have to negotiate rapids such as Sharks Tooth, Zig and Zag, and the eye opening Linn of Tummel a colossal two tier drop which slams you into Loch Faskally with a splash. A short paddle past Cluny Power Station and you are back ready to watch the photos that are taken of your trip which will be shown on a widescreen TV by the time you are changed.

The River Tummel is located central to Scotland and accessible from all directions. Accommodation can be found in Pitlochry and Aberfeldy. Food can be purchased on site from the Fayre and Square Van.

As the trip is only half day you have plenty of time to make a day of it and go River Bugging.
